Thrift Store destroyed in blaze
Our sister St. Vincent de Paul Store in Lansing has suffered a terrible loss. The building and contents were destroyed in an early morning fire on Sunday, December 18. Lansing firefighters have said the fire appears accidental. The charity, which provides $20,000 to $25,000 a month in utility assistance in the region, lost inventory of roughly six months' worth of clothing and two months' worth of furniture.
The St. Vincent de Paul thrift store in Lansing has found temporary locations thanks to community donations. The Catholic charity will occupy two temporary storefronts at 5136 and 5206 S. Cedar St. in Lansing, inside the Jolly-Cedar Plaza shopping center. Donations are being accepted from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Donations of clothing and shoes, furniture and other household items are of particular need. The store will open to customers possibly in late January. The store also occupies donated warehouse space on Enterprise Drive, where furniture and clothing are being cleaned and prepared for sale.
These items are needed for the store: Display cases and racks, shopping carts, work tables, donation tubs, shelving Desks, chairs, calculators, file cabinets, office supplies, conference tables, book cases Two Wheelers, furniture movers, tools, vacuums, brooms, cleaning supplies, Z-racks, clothing racks, pallets
The store is aiming to renovate or rebuild at the original location. Please pray for our fellow ministry serving the people of Lansing. If you would like to help, credit card donations can be made through their website: http://www.svdplansing.org/
